CONNECTORS, RELATIVE
CLAUSE, ADVERB DAN ADJECTIVE
A.
Connectors
Connectors atau kata penghubung
digunakan untuk menggabungkan dua kalimat atau lebih menjadi satu kalimat. Connectors
dibagi menjadi 3, yatu:
1. Menunjukkan
waktu : before, after, as soon as, while, when.
Contoh:
a. Rani
went home after the rain stopped.
b. I
prepare my money and books before i go to school.
c. Rina
started to hug her mother as soon as she arrived in the home
d. While
kimi was wacthing drama korea, somebody knocked on the door.
e. I
was really happy when i saw my parents.
2. Menunjukkan
sebab akibat: because/because of, since.
Contoh:
a. Since
i have no money, i can’t shopping.
b. I
went to the hospital because i had a serious accident.
3. Menunjukkan
tanda urutan: first, next, then, after that, finally.
Contoh:
a. First,
we must prepare the ingredients.
b. Next,
we cut the vegetables into small pieces.
c. After
that, we put them into frying pan.
d. Finally,
we put some sauce and salt.
Sedangkan cause connectors terbagi
menjadi 4, yaitu:
1. AND
Ketika kita ingin menggunakan 2 item
dalam sebuah kalimat (misalnya benda), maka kita tidak menggunakan koma, namun
apabila lebih dari 2, maka gunakanlah koma. Contoh:

He saw a table and i saw a chair.
-
Rina saw a snake, a cat, a dog and a
pig.
2. BUT
Menghubungkan suatu kalimat apabila
kedua kalimat itu bertentangan.
Contoh:
-
The dress did not cost too much, but the
quality seemed excellent.
-
She is beautiful but she is dirty
3. SO
Menghubungkan suatu kalimat, dimana
kalimat kedua merupakan akibat dari tindakan pertama.
Contoh:
-
The furnace broke so the house got quite
cold.
-
It was raining, so i decided not to go
shopping.
4. OR
Menghubungkan suatu kalimat jika ingin
membuat pilihan.
Contoh:
-
Do you like juice or milk?
-
Do you want to go home or stay here?
B.
Relative Clause
Relative Clause berfungsi untuk
menerangkan kata benda sehingga didapat informasi yang jelas mengenai benda
tersebut. Untuk menghubungkan antar klausa digunakan kata penghubung seperti
that, which, who, whom dan whose.
Contoh:
-
The boy who is sitting is the manager.
-
The girl whom i met yesterday are coming
to my house.
-
This is the book which i always read.
-
The policeman that i talked to will
retire next year.
C.
Adverb dan Adjective
Adverb adalah kata keterangan yang
digunakan untuk memberi informasi mengenai kata kerja yang digunakan dalam
suatu kalimat.
Contoh:
-
You can speak English well
-
He thinks math is easy.
-
He learns quickly
-
He runs fast.
Adjective yaitu kata sifat yang
digunakan untuk menjelaskan atau menggambarkan sesuatu baik itu orang, tempat,
benda, binatang atau konsep abstrak.
Contoh:
-
I have got a new car
-
Rina has four cute puppies
-
The chicken tastes delicious
-
I am really happy today
